The Heli-Tie helical wall tie system is a stainless steel system used to anchor building facades to structural members or to stabilize brick walls.
The helical design allows the tie to be driven quickly and easily into a pre-drilled pilot hole (or embedded in mortar joints in new construction) to create a mechanical connection between a masonry facade and its backup. As it is driven, the tie's fins undercut the masonry to create a non-deforming anchor that resists tension and compression loads.
The Heli-Tie wall tie is installed in a pre-drilled hole using a dedicated setting tool and an SDS-plus® rotary hammer to drive and countersink the tie. Heli-Tie wall ties are compatible with concrete, masonry, wood and steel studs.
- Quick and easy installation: using a rotary hammer in hammer-only mode, the tie installs faster than competing products.
- Allows a discreet repair that preserves the building's appearance. Once installed, the tie is countersunk up to 1.25 cm below the surface, so the installation point can be patched.
- A larger core diameter provides higher torsional capacity, reducing deformation due to "unwinding" under load.
- Fractional-size anchor: no metric bits required.
- Size: 3/8"
- Type 304 stainless steel (type 316 available by special order, contact Simpson Strong-Tie for details)
- Drill a pilot hole through the facade material and into the backup material to the specified embedment depth + 2.5 cm (1 in.), using the appropriate bit(s) from the table below. When drilling soft masonry or hollow backup materials, the drill must be used in rotation-only mode.
- Insert the drive end of the Heli-Tie ™ fastener into the setting tool and insert the fastener into the pilot hole.
- Using the SDS-plus rotary hammer in hammer mode, drive the tie until the tool tip enters the outer surface of the masonry and countersinks the tie below the surface. Patch the hole in the facade with matching masonry mortar.
